Born in Brooklyn, he was raised by his mother in the Fort Greene section. Applying the strong work ethic instilled by his parents, he succeeded at all levels of his education from New York City Public schools, to Brooklyn College to ultimately New York Law where he served as an editor of the Law Review, and received his J.D. in 1980 with honors.
